Perhaps not
the best Pet Shop Boys album, but if only others had their standards. Ironically
-that word again - they've never sounded so contemporary,
Chris Lowe's stark, plangent keyboard lines and Europop undercarriage chiming
with trance's chart ascent, white Nell Tennant continues to tell sad stories
of older man's love in a huffed and taut, somewhat younger man's world.
Big gay choirs on the terrific,
Kylie Minogue-featuring In Denial. Booty-shaking Hi-NRG on New York City
Boy. Nocturnal sex, dancing and Sergei Rachmaninov. You just can't get that
anywhere else. BEST BIT: 1.00 into Radiophonic Tennant's clipped "I
think I'm in love" as the synths spiral into the firmament. |
