WAS lucky enough to be the only journalist invited to see the PET SHOP BOYS
perform an exclusive gig with pals including ROBBIE WILLIAMS on Monday.
NEIL TENNANT
and CHRIS LOWE gave a storming 90-minute set with an all-star cast at
the Mermaid Theatre in London.
The legendary
duo proved Its A Sin to have been off the stage so long as they
belted out their pop classics backed by the 60-piece BBC Concert Orchestra.
The lads
also performed tunes from their forthcoming album Fundamental before Robbie
took to the stage to sing Jealousy the first song Neil and Chris
penned together.
Pet Shop Boys
Crowd pleaser ... Robbie
Neil told
me at the aftershow party: I thought Robbie did a brilliant job.
I loved the way he phrased the lyrics.
Robbie was
equally complimentary. Talking backstage at the Radio 2 concert, he told
how honoured he felt and what a huge fan he was of the duo.
Pet Shop Boys
In full flow ... Neil
Fellow fan
SIR ELTON JOHN turned up to soak up the atmosphere with the 600-strong
audience, who were also treated to performances by Canadian singer RUFUS
WAINWRIGHT and actress/singer FRANCES BARBER.
TREVOR HORN,
behind FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD hits like Relax, played bass. Hear the
gig on Radio 2 on May 27 at 9pm.
