The pet shop boys have released a Disco album in each decade since the
franchised made its debut in 1986 I the title originally chosen in contrast
to those stadium rock dominated times. Passing over 1994's Irritating
second instaiment, this lasts ten-track set instead takes its lead from
the excellent 'introspective' album and the pleasingly durable limited-edition
'Relentless' ; this is dance music created by people with great love for
and understanding of the genre, who have write some of the best pop songs
for the past 20 years.
The
Five new songs here included two bedim in 1993 that fit perfectly with
the vogue for electro clash making this the record that an America Confused
by the boy's last guitar-driven album 'Release' remixes included a typically
excellent reworking of ' London by Felix Da Housecat, plus versions of
the album's two best tracks; 'home and Dry' (black & jones) and a
touching, upbeat 'Here' - showing once again that PSB are among the best
remixes of their own work. 'You've got a home here/ to return to when
you can't/face the world and you need/some support to succeed. 'Goes the
chorus. Like their B-side, the 'Disco' Series - and dance music in general
- seems to provided the boys with a retreat, as well as an area for Experimentation,
this definitely succeeds.
