The
posters adorned shopping malls, the videos blared from bus stop TVs,Radio
stations churned out hit after hit,the posters advertised a "full
band" show..
Pet
Shop Boys play the City of Angels.Finally.
Fashionably late to the strains of Home and dry,Neil was in fine voice
considering the is was show number fifty-something and the last night
of the
"Release" world tour. The band were very relaxed and if this
is the 'new'Pet Shop Boys, then I hope this show will return.A fresh new
sound was injected to the old hits(Love comes quickly,Being boring,Domino
dancing,Go west)and the new songs were well recieved by the euthusiastic
Thai audience, and hey, even Pete Gleadall joined in on guitar on 'I get
along'which turned into an arm waving singalong, the computer had to be
restarted on 'London' when Neil forgot to turn his guitar on..so rock
and roll..Chris was concerntrating throughout
and managed the occasional grin while Neil went about his trademark thigh-slapping
and dancing,a highlight was the singalong to 'Streets/Can't take my eyes...',the
latter being a huge techno favourite here in Thailand. The piano intro
to 'Go west'was fantastic,'Sexy northerner'was thumpingly fabulous in
an arena this size, and why it wasn't a single bemused me,but thats the
Pet Shop Boys for you,and tonight we saw why this show deserves to run
and run.
(Expect
a possible few UK dates around Christmas I reckon)Kudos must also go to
Dawne Adams on percussion and Bic Hayes who in true (almost)Pete Townsend
fashion whacked up his guitar volume full and hung it on the Marshall
speaker stack at the end of 'Go west'."Thank you for being an amazing
audience Bangkok"an ecstatic and probably surprised Neil said before
the last song. We've waited 16 years for this.Bangkok awaits your return
boys!
