"Absolutely
fabulous...." Yes, Disco 2 proves that the Pet Shop Boys are the
most prolific dance/pop duo on the scene these days. Their last album,
Very, was released last September after much anticipation. The commercial
success they attained with their cover of the Village People's song, "Go
West," foreshadowed their tasty, dance floor-savvy 12" remix
of Blur's metro/neo anthem, "Girls and Boys."
Disco
2 is more or less a tribute to themselves -- a kudos to their own stardom.
It is also a very modern sequel to their compact 80's remix collection,
Disco.
The
new release goes over the top in a couple of ways. First, there are twelve
songs mixed in and out of each other into a continuous megamix. This was
accomplished by the new remixer on the block, Danny Rampling. Second,
its unrelenting dance beat demonstrates how vanguard the Pet Shop Boys
are.
Many
fans on this side of the Atlantic have not yet heard the Pet Shop Boys'
rave tribute to the twisted British comedy "Absolutely Fabulous."
It turns out to be fun and pretentious.
Oh
yeah, Disco 2 is way too appropriate for headphones walking on the track...
promise!
